Riley Yeawon You

February 23rd, 2010 admin No comments

It appears that we’re having another girl. It’s not 100% confirmed, but it’s clear from recent two ultrasound, we’re having a girl. By the way, I do know how to read the ultrasound. Either way, she’s healthy and both Yuchin and I are extremely excited.

What’s interesting is that Riley is top sibling name of Sydney.

Ellen’s Class Pictures

November 9th, 2009 admin No comments

It’s extremely difficult to photograph Ellen smiling. As far as I know, I’m the only one can do it since it takes tremendous effort; the effort that can only be made by a father. My wife and I thought it would be worth it to give it a try. After all, it is normal to take a class picture.

This is how my lovely daughter pays me back for making her take a picture when she doesn’t want to.

The iPhone Killer – No, It’s Not Droid, It’s AT&T

November 7th, 2009 admin No comments

Ever since iPod came to market, every new music device was touted as the “iPod” killer without making any dent in its dominance. The same thing has happened to iPhone as well. The challengers include, Android, Palm Pre, Blackberry Storm, and number of Windows CE/PocketPC phones.

Just released Droid phone from Motorola is a new challenger in dethroning the iPhone. Well, is it?

As far as I see it, it’s no longer about the iPhone. What will kill the iPhone is not the phone, but the network it’s on, AT&T. I had no choice but to get a Blackberry from Verizon so that I can in fact use the phone functionality. I still have iPhone as a music and video player.

What about the apps?

Any apps that require a network connection simply does not work consistently enough to be useful. I found that my Twitter client and the Facebook app do not work unless I’m on WiFi. If this is the case, why not just go with iPod Touch?

I see more and more people divorcing iPhone, and like me, carrying two phones. The timing is perfect for Motorola and Verizon to take over. It’s really up to the leadership of Verizon and Motorola, and that’s the biggest problem. The leaders in both companies do not possess a half brain required.

Today marks two years since Sydney was born. It’s amazing how fast she grew yet remains to be so cute. I’m so sorry that both of my girls have to celebrate their birthdays together.

Got Screwed by TD Bank

October 1st, 2009 admin No comments

I’m deeply concerned as my deposit is now gone from my bank account. The good thing is that the deposit came from my business account. At least I’ll be able to trace it. Not being able access your money is extremely frustrating and is causing all kinds of problems.

If you bank with TD Bank, you’re probably going through the same thing and I urge you to change your bank to others. I currently have business accounts with PNC and CapitalOne. They both offer same services and pricing as TD Bank (Commerce Bank).

On another note, do you really trust a bank that can’t handle computer system? What does that say about their system in the world of electronic transactions? Aren’t you concerned about their security? As a programmer, if the system can’t operate correctly, that usually means that security was never addressed. How can you think about security when you can’t get it to work?

The True Cost of Upgrading To Snow Leopard

September 24th, 2009 admin No comments

As a perpetual early adapter, I was thrilled with the price of Snow Leopard and promptly upgraded to the latest Mac OS. Well, it turns out that I have to shell out more money.

For one, my MindManager won’t work. I have the version 6 and resisted the upgrade since version 7 didn’t offer anything for me to upgrade. This is THE most important app for me and it really really sucks that I have to upgrade when I don’t want to.

I realized that I have to upgrade other costly softwares I own (yes, I BUY my software and you should too), and that can run into thousands unless the software makers offer free update (yeah, sure).
